How much do warehouse shelving systems cost?

(18.06.2026)

One of the first questions entrepreneurs ask when setting up their warehouse is: what does shelving actually cost? The honest answer is that the price varies considerably from one situation to another. Still, in this article we give you concrete guide prices and explain which factors make the difference, so you can start your project with realistic expectations.

Guide prices for warehouse shelving

The price of pallet racking is usually calculated per pallet position or per linear metre. As a rough guideline, you can expect the following amounts for new shelving, excluding VAT and assembly:

  • Shelving racks (for boxes and lighter goods): from approximately 80 to 300 euros per section, depending on height, number of shelves and load capacity per shelf.
  • Pallet racking (for euro pallets and heavy loads): typically 150 to 400 euros per pallet position, depending on the height and the weight per level.
  • Wide-span shelving (for bulky but lighter goods): a mid-range option in terms of price, often between shelving racks and pallet racking.

These amounts are guide figures. The actual price depends on the factors we discuss below. For an exact price, a tailored quote is always necessary.

Which factors determine the price?

1. New or second-hand

Second-hand shelving is often 40 to 60 percent cheaper than new. For many small and medium-sized businesses, this is an excellent way to reduce costs, provided the shelving is in good condition and properly inspected. New shelving, on the other hand, offers a full warranty, an exact configuration and a longer lifespan.

2. Load capacity and height

The heavier the loads and the higher the shelving, the stronger the material needs to be. Shelving that has to carry pallets of 1,000 kg per level costs more than a light shelving rack. High shelving also requires stronger uprights and sometimes anchoring, which increases the price.

3. Configuration and quantity

A large project with many identical sections is often more economical per pallet position than a small, custom solution. The total investment therefore depends not only on the price per position, but also on the volume.

4. Assembly and delivery

The shelving itself is one cost; the installation is another. Professional assembly ensures everything is built according to the EN 15512 safety standard. With a turnkey solution, delivery, assembly and sometimes the design are included, which prevents surprises later on.

5. Design and advice

A good warehouse design saves money in the long term: you make optimal use of the available space and avoid expensive adjustments later. A professional design often involves a small additional cost, but pays for itself in efficiency.

Why a tailored quote always pays off

Because so many factors influence the price, a general price list is never fully accurate. The best way to know what your project costs is a quote based on your concrete situation: the dimensions of your space, the type of goods, the desired load capacity and your budget.

At Magazijnservice, we look at your warehouse, think along about the layout and provide you with a clear quote without hidden costs. Whether you choose new or second-hand shelving, we handle the design, delivery and assembly from start to finish.
