Pallet flow racking (gravity flow racking) is a compact, high-density storage system where pallets move automatically from the loading aisle to the picking aisle by gravity, via slightly inclined roller conveyors. Perfect FIFO rotation — the first pallet loaded is always the first retrieved.

What are flow-through racks?
Rollover racks, also known as pallet flow racks or pallet flow, are the most dynamic system on pallet storage on the market. Their structure is a combination of racks and angled rails with rollers over which the load slides. Thus, gravity is used to load and unload pallets. Available storage space is also better utilized by eliminating aisles.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of flow-through racks?
Storage on flow racks offers several advantages. Above all, it is the most flexible way to compact goods with the best operational performance. Thus, it is an ideal solution for different types of warehouses. Its implementation ensures excellent inventory control. Since the aisle for loading and unloading is separated, there is no interference. And because only one SKU is stored from each storage aisle, it is easier to find and retrieve products. Rollover racks also naturally guarantee maximum use of available space. Installing deep channels can lead to some capacity loss in height, due to the slope required for the system to function (about 4%).
What are the differences between flow-through racks and drive-in racks?
One of the main differences between the two systems is how the entry and exit is done. In drive-in racks, the forklift drives through the storage aisles to place the pallets. With roll-through racks, on the other hand, the forklift does not drive around, as it places the pallets at the entrance to the chosen storage channel and rolls them to their place completely autonomously. This makes dropping off and taking out pallets in roll-through racks significantly faster and safer. Another important difference is the variety of SKUs stored, which is greater in pallet flow-through racks. Indeed, each channel can contain a different SKU, whereas in drive-in racks, all channels in the same storage lane contain only one SKU.
What is the difference between flow-through racks and pushback racks?
The main difference is the way inventory management is done. In flow racks, there are two aisles (one for loading and one for unloading) and the FIFO (First In First Out) principle is used. This means that the first pallets placed in a channel are also the first ones taken out. For pushback racking, on the other hand, LIFO (Last In First Out) applies: since there is only one aisle, the last pallet placed in a channel is taken out first. In warehouses where perishable goods are managed (food or pharmaceutical items, for example), flow-through racks are the ideal alternative. SKUs with the shortest shelf life can easily be taken out on priority.
